The Graduate Aptitude Test in Biotechnology (GAT-B) is a national-level entrance examination conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on behalf of the Regional Centre for Biotechnology (RCB). It is designed to evaluate the eligibility of Indian nationals for admission to Department of Biotechnology (DBT)-supported postgraduate programs in Biotechnology and allied disciplines across participating universities and institutions in India. GAT-B assesses candidates' knowledge in core areas such as molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, microbiology, and allied subjects. The exam plays a crucial role in selecting candidates for DBT-funded programs, offering opportunities to pursue advanced studies and research in cutting-edge fields of biotechnology.

FAQ's

The test will be conducted in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode.

The question paper will have two sections:
Section A will have 60 compulsory multiple-choice questions of the level of 10+2 in the subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology. Each correct response will be awarded One (1) mark. There will be negative marking and for each wrong answer, Half (1/2 or 0.5) mark will be deducted.
Section B will have multiple-choice questions of Bachelor’s (Graduate) level. There will be questions from Basic Biology, Life Sciences, Biotechnology and allied sciences as per syllabus. There will be 100 questions out of which candidates will have to attempt 60 questions. Each correct response will be awarded Three (3) marks. There will be negative marking and for each wrong answer, One (1) mark will be deducted. Un-answered/ un-attempted question will be given Zero (0) mark.

Medium of the question paper for admission to GATB will be English only.

For GAT-B, there is no age restriction.

Qualified candidates of GAT-B will be paid stipend as under:
a) M.Sc. Biotechnology & Allied sciences: Rs. 5000/- per month
b) M.Sc. Agricultural Biotechnology: Rs. 7500/- per month
c) M.Tech. Biotechnology and allied sciences and M.V.Sc. Programmes - Rs. 12000/- per month
